Fact #22 Private Investigators Use the Power of Creativity to Crack Cases

A private investigator was hired to investigate a disability claim by a high-ranking executive of a publicly traded corporation. After failing to gather any evidence through surveillance, the investigator checked his background and devised a plan to be invited into the executive’s home under false pretences of offering free custom golf clubs.

He took a new set of unbranded clubs with him and began to fake a measurement of the clubs to the guy. While he was in his house the executive’s attorney called and he asked to wait for about five-ten minutes and walked into a different room.

The investigator overheard the conversation planning for an upcoming deposition. When the guy came back, the investigator asked about the possibility of taking pictures of the executive swinging golf clubs despite claiming to have a permanent disability. The evidence was used in court, and the executive was exposed for fraud.
